Kentucky’s best burger is now a $100 hamburger!
When a February 2015 fire destroyed the iconic 75 year-old Weaver’s Hot Dogs in London Kentucky, it wasn’t the end of an era for this beloved institution, but the start of a new one. And the launch of a new Air Fare America destination!
After six weeks of cleaning, painting, installing new lights, and building a stage and new bar, Weaver’s Landing opened at McGee Field in April 2015. Unfamiliar with her local airport before the move, restaurant manager Eva Reynolds said the community has embraced their new locale. In turn, the almost 20 staff members now at LOZ have introduced a legion of pilot patrons and aviation enthusiasts to Weaver’s legendary food, entertainment and service.
“We’re all about good food, good fun and good music,” said Reynolds. “We want to make sure everyone who flies or drives here loves us.”
The centerpiece of the restaurant is a beautiful new bar custom made by Stavely Construction. “We’re a Kentucky-proud restaurant so we’re really big on our bourbons,” said Reynolds. She tells us future plans include upgrading the large patio overlooking the tarmac.
Chef Gary Hobbs daily specials include creole dishes, fresh fish, seasonal vegetables and of course, the hot-dogs that put Weavers on the map. Thrillist recently named Weaver’s Blue Burger one of the 10 Best Burgers in Kentucky.
Third generation family owners Judd and Kim Weaver christened their new 104-seat location at the London-Corbin Airport less than 10 weeks after the devastating fire thanks an outpouring of community support. A smaller restaurant — Weaver’s on 4th — opened just last week to continue serving the loyal downtown community as a fourth generation carries on the family’s tradition with Jud as manager and Will as cook.
According to airport legend, Colonel Sanders, a long-time Corbin resident (the original KFC is now a diner and museum 12 miles from LOZ) once served on the airport board.
Weaver’s Landing is open Monday to Wednesday, 11 am to 10 pm and Thursday to Saturday, 11 am to midnight. The restaurant is closed on Sunday. For information, call 606-330-0747 or visit their website.
